Nigerian Gospel Throwback Hits 2000s

The Nigerian Gospel Music Industry has strategically grown over the years, from lyrics to sound, and production to appealing visuals. Talented artists have over the decades create an atmosphere for Nigerians and those in the diaspora to steadily connect with God through praise-worship music.

This week Gmusicplus has decided to take you ‘our readers’ back to the 2000s with our throwback list of Nigerian gospel hits from years back.

• Lara George – Ijoba Orun

U.S based Nigerian Gospel sensation Lara George delivered one of the best most sung worship anthems that reminded lots of individuals about the reality of heaven. The songwriter who won Voice of the Year at the Nigeria Music Awards in 2008, made giant strides with the  “Ijoba Orun” from her debut album – “Forever in My Heart.”


• Sammie Okposo – Wellu Wellu

Veteran Gospel singer Sammie Okposo in the year 2000, took gospel music to a whole new level with the release of his album titled Unconditional Love which had the much-acclaimed Nigerian praise anthem, ‘Wellu Wellu’ on it. This praise jam continues to remain relevant even today as the lyrics and sound deliberately moves you off your feet.


• Midnight Crew – Igwe

Famous Nigerian music group – Midnight Crew will forever be remembered for their amazing hit, Igwe. The praise jam has not ceased to stir dancing and excitement amongst many.


• Eben – Imara Nma

Eben rose to prominence in 2005 after his first big public appearance, at a youth conference organized by Pastor Chris where “Imarama” was first heard. The contemporary rock record still sounds fresh in the ears after many years of its release.


  • Kenny Kore – Somore

Keny K’ore captivated the hearts of many with “So Mòre,” a Nigerian praise-worship favorite from his first solo album “Eledumare,” released in 2009. This amazing song is one you’d love to listen to all over again.
