Stellar Gospel Music Awards 2026: Kirk Franklin, Tasha Cobbs Leonard and Gospel Stars Shine in Charlotte

The 41st Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards delivered a memorable celebration of gospel music, faith, culture, and excellence as some of the biggest names in the genre gathered in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Hosted by 45 time Stellar Award winner and 20 time GRAMMY Award winner Kirk Franklin, the ceremony brought “The Greatest Night in Gospel Music” to the Queen City under the fitting theme “Feels Like Home.”
Held at the Spectrum Center on Saturday, August 15, the ceremony brought together gospel legends, contemporary stars, emerging artists, industry leaders, and passionate fans. For more than four decades, the Stellar Gospel Music Awards have recognized artists whose music continues to inspire faith and shape the sound of gospel music. This year, the event carried that tradition forward with powerful performances, emotional tributes, special honors, and memorable collaborations.
The evening also highlighted the changing face of gospel music. Established stars shared the spotlight with a younger generation of artists who are bringing fresh sounds and new perspectives to the genre. Aaron Cole performed with Tenroc and Jonathan McReynolds, while Céjae and JustCordell represented a rising generation of gospel voices. Their appearances showed how gospel music continues to evolve while remaining rooted in faith and ministry.
The performance lineup remained strong throughout the night. Darrel Walls, Maranda Curtis, Marvin Sapp, Melvin Crispell III, PJ Morton, William Murphy, Vincent Bohanan & SOV, and other celebrated performers brought their unique styles to the stage. Each appearance added another layer to an evening built around musical excellence, worship, celebration, and community.
One of the biggest moments came when Tasha Cobbs Leonard received the prestigious Aretha Franklin Icon Award. The honor recognized her remarkable career, influence, and contribution to gospel music. Pastor Mike Jr. also received one of the ceremony’s major honors. He was presented with the Thomas A. Dorsey Most Notable Achievement Award for his impact on gospel music and his continued work through music and ministry. His recognition reflected a career that continues to combine energetic music, strong faith messages, and a clear desire to take gospel music to new audiences.
The ceremony also featured a series of major collaborations that kept the audience engaged. Jekalyn Carr performed with Karen Clark Sheard and Yolanda Adams, bringing three powerful voices together for a standout gospel moment. Jevon Dewand & The Trap Starz joined Isaac Carree, Jazze Pha, Gaz Money, and Johnny Gill, while John P. Kee performed with Zacardi Cortez.
Kelontae Gavin also shared the stage with Melvin Williams and Paul Porter. Tye Tribbett brought his trademark energy with ABLAZE, while Kierra Sheard Kelly, Lisa Knowles Smith & The Brown Singers, Maranda Curtis, Marvin Sapp, Melvin Crispell III, PJ Morton, William Murphy, and Vincent Bohanan & SOV added further musical highlights.
Beyond the performances, the ceremony attracted a notable group of presenters from across music, entertainment, ministry, and popular culture. The night carried a strong sense of history while also looking toward the future. Gospel legends were celebrated alongside younger voices, creating a bridge between the artists who shaped the genre and those who are helping define its next chapter. That balance gave the 41st edition a distinct sense of purpose and showed why the Stellar Awards remain an important platform for gospel music.
