Nathaniel Bassey Shares Heartfelt Testimony of Faith About Wife Miscarriages at Hallelujah Challenge

Renowned gospel minister and worship leader Nathaniel Bassey has opened up about a deeply personal and painful chapter in his life, revealing that his wife, Sarah Bassey, suffered five miscarriages, including an ectopic pregnancy, during the period he was leading the globally acclaimed Hallelujah Challenge.

The revelation came during a recent session of the October 2025 edition of the Hallelujah Challenge, a 25-day virtual gathering of worship, prayer, and praise that began on October 7 and will end on October 31, with each day’s session starting at 11:59 p.m..

This year’s edition also marks the eighth anniversary of the Hallelujah Challenge, a global movement that has united thousands of believers across nations in midnight praise and fervent prayer.

Speaking candidly during the early hours of Friday while leading worship, Bassey recounted how he continued to minister despite deep personal grief, often returning to the altar of praise while his wife was hospitalised.

“As men of God and ministers, we have heard a lot of stories. People come to me and say, ‘Pastor Nathaniel, you don’t understand…’”

With emotion in his voice, he continued:

“My wife will have to forgive me. Do you know there were times during the Hallelujah Challenge when we had a miscarriage, and nobody knew? I would still come online to praise and dance.”

He went on to describe one of the most painful experiences they faced together.

“A few years ago, she was in the hospital with an ectopic pregnancy. I would leave, lead praise and worship online, then return to the hospital, and the nurses attending to her would tell me, ‘It was powerful tonight.’ Not one, not two, not three or four pregnancies, but five.”

Despite the heartache, Nathaniel Bassey used his testimony to strengthen the faith of believers who may be enduring silent pain. He encouraged them to hold fast to God’s promises, declaring that faith must remain steadfast even in moments of sorrow.

“So when people say, ‘Where is God?’ I say, I understand. God is faithful. One of the words He gave us was, ‘Don’t give up on God.’”

Bassey reminded listeners that God’s promises never fail, and even in the darkest valleys, His faithfulness shines through.

Bassey’s openness reveals the often-unseen side of ministry — moments when leaders carry personal burdens while continuing to pour into others. His testimony not only humanises his journey but also underscores the essence of true worship: praising God in the midst of pain.

“God is faithful. My life is proof that even in pain, He remains true to His word.”

Since its inception, the Hallelujah Challenge has become a spiritual movement of global impact, inspiring millions to seek God through worship, prayer, and thanksgiving. And with this revelation, its message of enduring faith and unwavering praise takes on even deeper meaning.

Nathaniel Bassey, who has been married to Sarah Bassey since 2013, continues to serve as one of the leading voices in contemporary gospel music and worship ministry. His testimony is a reminder that faith is not the absence of trials but the strength to worship through them.

As the Hallelujah Challenge continues through October, believers across the world join Nathaniel Bassey in declaring that no matter the pain, God remains faithful and His people will never stop lifting their voices in praise.
