Introducing…..David Kalilani (Malawi)

David Kalilani, or known simply as David, is a gifted rapper and HipHop artist who is uncompromising in skill, lyricism, substance and content that is now based and founded on the Christian faith that he represents and embodies in his life.

David was first known as Linguistix or simply Stix, a name he adopted for having being recognised as having the ability to switch from his native tongue of Chewa to English flawlessly while he was in the US and freestyling on radio. He, along with Kimba Mutanda (Plan B), later joined Qabaniso Malewezi and Lou Chikuni aka Marvel & Q, forming Malawi’s pioneering HipHop group known as Real Elements, a group with which he toured with in the UK and Europe as a whole.

In 2004, a shift in thinking, refocus of life’s priorities, Jesus the Christ was what and who David encountered. From 2004 David went silent for a few years and came back appearing and featuring on several Christian projects – Spirit Filled Spit Kickaz vol 1 & 2, Gosple’s album among others. Fast forward to 2012 and David released “The Lost Tapes” – a collection of some of the songs he had featured in and others that were never released over that period in a bid to give his listeners something to hold on to as David’s work.

Later in the same year, 2012, David released his debut solo album “Exodus: The Preview” which features great Malawian talent like Lawi, Taritta, KBG and also features a shout out from MC Jin. The album contains 15 tracks all written by David himself – an aspect that raises him to a platform as a songwriter.

David has a degree in biblical studies from African Bible College. David also runs Arise Inc., an artist management company which also deals with multimedia and events management.
