Gospel music icon Kirk Franklin has taken to Instagram to pay tribute to his adoptive mother, Gertrude Franklin, circa 1945. The multiple GRAMMY® Award-winning artist, 50, shared a photo of Gertrude with his 1.9M Instagram followers on May 10 – the date of Mother’s Day in the US.

In a touching caption accompanying the post, Kirk remembered her for changing the direction of his life for good and paid homage to mum’s who change lives every day.

“I was born Kirk Mathis. My name was changed to Kirk Smith when my biological mother married a man in the military so I could be on his insurance. Still, I ended up being abandoned… until this beautiful lady legally adopted me and gave me the last name of her deceased husband Jack Franklin.” Kirk Franklin pens.

“She didn’t get to live to hear my first song recorded or to be swept off her feet by the many gifts I would’ve showered her with to show my appreciation for not only changing my name, but changing my life’s direction. Happy Mother’s Day to all of you queens who change lives every day ??❤️”

Basking in the euphoria of Mother’s Day celebration, Kirk Franklin added a new level of sauce to Megan The Stallion’s hit song “Savage”. The interesting remake to Meg’s track involved his daughter, wife and mother-in-law who all laid some tracks down, while not only paying homage to themselves but also to Michelle Obama.
