There has been a heaviness in the hearts of many in the country and globally.  This is due to the ugly incident that took place on the 20th of October 2020, where armed security operatives opened fire on peaceful #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki toll gate, Lagos, Nigeria.

As believers, we walk in the light, and we need to respond in faith to these dark clouds hovering over the country. We have collated five songs we believe are timely for a time like this, to uplift your spirit.

  1. You are my Hiding Place – Benny Hinn

Where does one run to when there is a crisis? This song is a perfect depiction of (the name of the Lord is a strong tower scripture). In these dark times, there is only one secure place in the world. You are my hiding place is a Benny Hinn classic that teaches us how to draw closer to God.

  1. The Anthem – Dunsin Oyekan & Jerry Eze

This song could not have been released at a better season. This timely song has caught on like wildfire as it talks about the magnitude of God’s power. A part that stood out was when Pastor Jerry Eze read out some testimonies from his prayer watch. Those miraculous testimonies are reminders that nothing is too difficult for God to do. No situation is too big for our Father to handle; this includes delivering the nation from the clutches of evil powers.

  1. Surrounded – Upper Room

Psalm 121 states that “He who keeps Israel does not sleep nor slumber.” We must remember our protector in this period. We need to know our weapons of war and engage the current challenges. There are many versions of the song, but the upper room’s version is a beautiful rendition that can be played on repeat.

  1. Peace – TY Bello & Sinach

Nigeria needs peace, not just peace but lasting peace. Only one person can provide that—the one who spoke to the storm and went quiet. The prince of peace still reigns supreme in the affairs of men. TY Bello and Sinach join forces to release this spirit-filled song. There is so much negative information going around about the country, but at this time, we need to remember to speak peace.

  1. Shoulders – For King and Country

When confusion’s my companion
And despair holds me for ransom
I will feel no fear
I know that You are near.

Many of us can relate to the lyrics of this song, but we must always remember that God is our ever-present help in time of need.  for King and Country is a gospel pop duo made up of two brothers. This classic evergreen hit is washing for a troubled soul.

  1. This is beautiful. I smiled from my heart as I read through. More than ever we need to seek refuge in God to heal our hurt and take away our anger. And we need to rely on Him for the birth of a New Nigeria. He did it in Exodus and in the book of Esther. He will do it again, only believe, pray and be patient.
